A packed audience of Chamber members and guests turned out in force to meet two of the prospective Hastings and Rye candidates. The original plans for a full hustings event were quickly shelved, out of respect, following the tragic events in Manchester earlier in the week.
The Rt Hon Amber Rudd had planned to attend and made every effort to do so but had to send her apologies, at the last minute, after being pulled away on official duties for the Prime Minister.
Despite this, prospective candidates Peter Chowney (Labour) and Nick Perry (Liberal Democrats) still attended in order to give the audience chance to meet and talk with them on an individual basis, within the confines of an informal non-combative setting.
Sean Dennis, Chamber Director commented ‘whilst it was disappointing to cancel the hustings, and then for Amber not to be able to attend, everyone agreed this was the right thing to do in the circumstances. The Chamber and its members were sickened by this atrocity and wished to express their heart-felt thoughts and best wishes to everyone touched by this shocking tragedy.’
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 29th June, venue is to be confirmed, but this will be an informal networking focused event to which visitors and guests are welcomed.
