Despite the not insignificant curve ball of purdah forcing Network Rail to cancel their attendance, at the eleventh hour, long time Chamber supporter, Kevin Boorman, Hastings Borough Council, stepped into the breach to deliver a lively and very informative presentation on the various rail consultations relevant to the Hastings and Rother area, and in particular the proposals for the HS1 link.
With the benefit of a recent meeting with Network Rail, Kevin ran through the options, challenges and action needed by the local business community. Members left with no doubt that this was the best possible chance they have ever had to significantly improve line speeds to London and that every single consultation response counted.
Chairman, Clive Galbraith told those gathered ‘There is no question, the Chamber is in full support of the proposals for HS1, I call on every business across Hastings and Rother to back the plans and make the case’.

Pages 64 – 66 cover the Marshlink improvements/HS1 connection, page 76 sets out how to respond, in section 6.4. We recommend the business community clearly state their support and why, focusing on areas such as what this would mean to you, staff and your business.
We also heard from Mike Eastwood, Friends of the Conquest Hospital. The Friends are celebrating 25 years of the Hospital by buying a state of the art MRI Scanner.
The current scanner is 13 years old, outdated and the hospital is unable to meet the growing demand for MRI, having to resort to referring patients elsewhere.
Since its launch in March, they are already over half way to their £1m target, but still have a way to go. To find out more visit https://www.conquestlof.org.uk/mridonate/
